Who is it for?

Pack-Age is for you, who are interested in learning packaging design in a fun way as a part of multidisciplinary team working with a real design challenge. Pack-Age prepares students for a project-based working and cooperation of different fields. The learning content consists of theme lectures and workshops as well as independent and supervised group work. Also excursions are part of the program. Pack-Age is organised by the Aalto ARTS Master’s Degree Programme in Visual Communication Design, but teachers collaborate from many different schools and programs. Our teaching themes include:

  • Visual Communication Design & Branding
  • User-Centered Design & User Experience
  • Packaging Materials and Engineering
  • Sustainable Product Design
  • Marketing & Consumer Research
  • Packaging Development and Model making

You will learn how to design, communicate, evaluate, test and justify your solutions. You will learn to understands packaging from many different perspectives and also learn good project work practices and how to communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders.

The minor is organised as one long 15 ECTS project course. Apply with a motivation letter. Please include following information:

  • What interests you in packaging?
  • Do you have experience of working with multidisciplinary projects?
  • What kind of knowledge or competence would you bring to the project team?
  • Can you commit time for a work-intensive course?
  • What expectations do you have for Pack-Age?
  • Would be interested in working as project manager in your group?

Based on motivation letters, the teachers will select and form the project groups before the course begins.
We will be working with 4 different projects in 2018 in teams of 5-6 persons. Teaching and project work takes place from September to December.
